Structure focus work in ~90-minute ultradian bouts
Huberman recommends aiming for approximately 90 minutes for a focused bout of physical exercise, skill learning, musical learning, or deep conversation, based on the brain and body operating in 90-minute ultradian cycles within each 24-hour circadian day. He advises accepting the first 5-10 minutes as transition time (the warm-up) but including them in the 90 minutes. How many such cycles you can perform per day depends on sleep, nourishment, and how trained your focus capacity is. He cautions not to tell teachers, advisors, parents, or friends that you can't concentrate for more than 90 minutes per day — the cycles refer to deep focus bouts only — and suggests treating deep focus bouts like a workout where you force yourself to focus, refocus, and sharpen the arrowhead.
