A new team member's 'deadbeat dad' joke broke the ice in a robotic meeting
At a recent Charisma on Command team meeting, a new team member who had been spotted up early on Slack was asked if it was because he had a kid. The normal answer would be 'No, I don't have a kid. I'm just up early.' Instead, he took a social risk and answered 'Well, actually I do, but I'm just a deadbeat dad,' which made everybody laugh. The joke broke the robotic beginning of the meeting and got people making jokes, including someone quoting Daniel Day Lewis's 'I've abandoned my boy.' The team started talking about movies, and the new team member turned out to be a big movie buff, allowing a connection off that one little joke to something much bigger — he and the creator now work on scripts together outside Charisma on Command.
