Over-regulation slows progress; special economic zones as an escape valve
Armstrong argues that over-regulation is what slows down progress in many parts of the world, with Europe cited as an example and the US having its own imperfect version. The current regulatory approval process in many cases is incredibly stifling to innovation and experimentation. Various solutions have been proposed at different points, including seasteading, Mars, and brain uploading to cyberspace. He also notes that strategically, America could benefit from getting really good at specific domains like nuclear power, drug discovery, crypto, or drone delivery.
