Gene editing could increase human diversity rather than diminish it
Armstrong argues gene editing could increase rather than decrease human diversity because of the unlimited diversity of human preferences: if parents could choose outcomes, every parent would have some different favorite thing among great artist, great general, great engineer, great politician. In the limit case, he speculates diversity could get really out there, like kids born with gills who can breathe underwater or wings to fly. He also suggests genetic enhancement might just raise the floor, so the kid is still who they are, just without schizophrenia or depression.
