If you can't sleep: don't force it, get up after ~20 minutes
Strategy five: what to do if you can't sleep. Trying to force sleep usually makes it worse, and lying in bed wide awake worrying makes falling asleep harder. If you're not asleep after about 20 minutes, don't just lie there worrying — get up, go to another quiet space, and do something calming like reading or listening to soft music until you feel sleepy. The creator adds two principles: resting quietly in bed still gives your body a chance to recover even if you're not fully asleep, and letting go of the pressure to sleep can help sleep come more naturally.
